Non-surgical endodontic retreatment of failed surgical retreatment: A case report
نویسنده
چکیده
The purpose of this article was to illustrate an alternative approach to non-surgical management of teeth with failed surgical retreatment. The patient presented with complaint of severe pain after endodontic treatment of the maxillary right lateral and central incisors, which has not been reduce by periradicular surgery. Radiographic examination revealed the poor quality of both the endodontic and amalgam root-end fillings, which were associated with periapical lesions. Non-surgical endodontic retreatment was performed while the root-end amalgams were left. The case was considered as open-apex teeth; therefore, MTA plugs were placed to ensure obtaining a hermetic seal. Follow-ups of 6 years post-procedure revealed clinical disappearance of the symptoms, and radiographs established complete healing of the lesions without removing the root-end amalgams. The treatment was successful in this case, while avoiding re-surgery has led to preserving root length. Nonsurgical endodontic retreatment may provide an alternative to the more complicated option of re-surgical treatment.

Non-Surgical Endodontic Retreatment after Unsuccessful Apicectomy: A Case Report
Introduction: Endodontic failure may arise mainly from persistent intra-radicular infection from remaining bacteria in the root canal. As a result, retreatment is the most appropriate way of dealing with failed cases. However, many clinicians choose to perform periapical surgery, on the grounds that it is simpler and has immediate results. The resected teeth with insufficient root canal treatme...
متن کاملEndodontic Retreatment of a Maxillary First Molar with Unusual Palatal Root Canal Morphology: A Case Report
Introdouction: Variations in root canal morphology pose a challenge for successful endodontic treatment. The root canal anatomy of the maxillary first molar has been often described as three roots with four canals (two mesiobuccal, one distobuccal, and one palatal). The occurrence of two palatal canals in one palatal root is quite rare. This report represents the case of a maxillary first molar...

This article reports non-surgical endodontic retreatment of two patients with persistent or recurrent periapical lesions, who had previously undergone surgical and non-surgical endodontic therapy respectively. متن کاملNonsurgical Endodontic Retreatment of Maxillary Second Molar with Two Palatal Root Canals: A Case Report
Successful endodontic treatment requires thorough knowledge regarding each root canal system of any tooth and probability of extra canals should be considered. Second maxillary molar with two palatal root canals is not frequent and its incidence reported in literatures is about 0.4-2%. The present case report describes non-surgical retreatment of maxillary second mo-lar with two palatal root ca...

Root-end resected teeth with persistent apical periodontitis are usually retreated surgically or a combination of non-surgical and surgical retreatment is employed. However, patients are sometimes unwilling to be subjected to a second surgical procedure. The apical barrier technique that is used for apical closure of immature teeth with necrotic pulps may be an alternative to non-surgically ret...
